The residency for visual artists is aimed at creators from Africa and beyond who resonate with the values of the House. A creative interlude, close to the artisans of the Jean-Félicien Gacha Foundation.

Eligibility criteria

  • 01

    Develop a professional practice in visual arts. This practice may notably include one of the crafts present at the Jean-Félicien Gacha Foundation (beadwork, ironwork, woodwork).

  • 02

    Be under 35 years old.

  • 03

    Be fluent in French.

  • 04

    Group applications are not eligible.

Application file

To be sent as a single PDF file, named after the applicant’s surname and first name, and made up of the following documents:

  • 01

    A detailed curriculum vitae (4 pages maximum).

  • 02

    An artistic file or portfolio including visuals of works, text excerpts or any other relevant material (5 pages maximum).

  • 03

    A statement of intent (3 pages maximum), presenting the applicant’s motivations, the value of the residency for their career and a proposed line of work around the given theme.

In 2026, Maison Gacha and the Jean-Félicien Gacha Foundation begin structuring their residency programme. A first call for applications, aimed at visual artists, was launched in February 2026 as part of Maison Gacha’s autumn exhibition devoted to ndop. The laureate is Rachel Marsil, a French-Senegalese artist who graduated from the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in 2021. Through this programme, our ambition is to give artists the chance to nourish their work with the discovery of Cameroon and the craftsmanship of the Foundation’s artisans. By fostering circulation and synergy between our two institutions, we help new narratives of creation to emerge.
